Submitting a Death Notice to The Washington Post
The Washington Post understands the death of a loved one is a difficult time for family members. To help create the perfect death notice message, The Washington Post has created this site to explain how to place a death notice, the publication deadlines, pricing, and other pertinent details.
Publication Deadlines:
The deadline for submitting a notice with an accompanying photograph is 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Deadlines may be changed on holidays. Please call The Washington Post Paid Death Notice team at 202-334-4122 or Check the Metro Section in the newspaper for holiday deadline information.
Families may publish a death notice of their loved one with verification of the death. Contact information for the funeral home or crematorium handling the arrangements is required and sufficient time should be allowed for the verification process.
We encourage you to submit a death notice as early as possible.
Submission Criteria:
Please be sure to submit a photo only of the deceased, cropping out any other people in the photograph. The minimum image size should be 300 DPI. The scan should be in .jpg format. Photos and emblems can be added to notices.
All notices will be verified, and final cost accepted before publication.
